Principles of Yoga
The principles of yoga, also known as the 8 limbs, help navigate the path to self-realization. They are not hard fast rules but rather guidlines for living a more balanced, peaceful and meaningful life.
Moral Principles. Practices of purification that work specifically on the mind.
Personal discipline. Five observances that work on ways that we approach ourselves.
Physical posture. Asanas are a gateway to the Self: they train the body to focus the mind.
Breath control. The whirlpools of the mind can be stilled by the regulation of breath.
Withdrawl of the Senses. Practice of further internalizaiton that serves to quiet the mind.
Concentration. The first stage of meditation is achieved by focusing the mind on a single point.
Meditation. A state we find ourselves in after much practice of inwardness and awareness.
Enlightenment. The perfection of yoga when the Self is realized.
